On the fourth of July

It seems like yesterday but it was over a decade ago that around this time we were awaiting campers. It was one of my most sleep deprived but yet one of the happiest times in my life.

I worked at Camp Oakhurst , a camp for disabled kids in the NY/NJ area. I am proud to say that I still keep in touch with many of the staffers still.

When the camp was going on or while the staff would hangout it was like nothing was wrong. We were all equals. That is a feeling I loved and it let me be me..which is hard.

I probably spent the majority of my money earned going to nyc, ottos and other places but I wouldn’t miss out on those experiences ever.

The camp is a easy 2 or so mile jog to the ocean…where those who lived in manhattan would retreat. I remember Billy Joel’s house. It was shaped like a piano.

I used to get up crazy early to run though. Man, if only I would get up like that now.

I miss Oakhurst and the people. I have random distorted dreams of it from time to time.

So is age a milestone or just a mile marker?

In pro sports if you are in your 30’s and are doing well it is often talked about how old they are and how much “time they have left”

In a pets life, if they are 10 plus they are considered old.

I just stopped counting for me and my dog long ago.
